Mango wood is beautiful, hardwearing and doesn't require much maintenance. However if you want to ensure that your mango wood dining table is an heirloom that you can pass on, there are a few things you can do to keep it in tip top condition for years to come.

Here’s how to protect your Mango Wood furniture

Place away from Sunlight

Avoiding sunlight is one of the key factors in protecting any type of wooden furniture. No matter what colour or wood your furniture may be, when exposed to direct sunlight the exterior is at risk of starting to fade. This isn’t to say it can't be in sunlight at any time as the rich beams truly show the high quality of mango wood but it is crucial to ensure its exposure to sun is kept to a minimum to avoid major fading.#

Be Careful of Liquids

Over time, spillages can cause damage or discolouration to your mango wood furniture. This is especially true of items like coffee tables and dining tables, as they are naturally exposed to liquids through usage.

Harsher liquids such as alcohol and nail polish should be handled with particular care, as they can harm the finish of mango wood.

If you spill any liquid ensure it is wiped up with a dry cloth immediately. Don’t place hot objects, such as your cup of tea directly onto the wood, always use mats and coasters.

Avoid Scratches

Every piece of furniture is crafted to be as stable and durable as possible. While accidental scratches do happen, there are steps you can take to try and avoid them. When styling pieces of mango wood furniture, like a sideboard, try to avoid heavy decor as they may cause dents. Use  mats under items to avoid scratches appearing on the wood.

Some scratches are inevitable, however.  If this is the case for you, we would recommend the purchasing of a wood pen which we offer in a variety of colours for you to touch up your furniture.

Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning, we would recommend wiping the surface daily if possible, but if not then at least once a week to avoid a build-up of airborne deposits such as dust. We recommend always using a dry cloth as constant use of a wet one may cause discoloration. Alternatively, using a small amount of beeswax would be ideal to clean the surface properly; it also has the benefit of adding to the wood’s protective coating .

If you follow these easy-care instructions, you can ensure your mango furniture is kept new and lasts for generations.
